Alexis Fishbone is a Senior Consultant for College Aid Services. With over 20 years of experience in financial aid and enrollment management, she recently joined the College Aid Services team to assist our partners in collaborating and supporting student recruitment, financial aid enrollment, retention, and degree completion strategies.
Alexis is an experienced, innovative, and forward-thinking financial aid and enrollment management professional. When asked about her most rewarding achievement in financial aid, Alexis spoke about a program she created to provide free education to community college students, enabling greater access to high quality higher education. A few years ago, she developed this program, geared at first-generation and non-citizen students, to provide funding for tuition, fees, books and supplies, and a “Navigator,” a member of the team who offers personal support throughout each students’ college journey.
Throughout her career, Alexis has applied a student centered-philosophy to re-envision processes within Student Financial Services and Admissions. With this focus, Alexis has continuously worked to ensure that policies and procedures adhere to federal, state, and institutional regulations, while enabling students to easily move through the onboarding process and beyond. Her advice to new financial aid administrators is to “listen to practically everything, learn from those who have been at this for a while, ask as many questions as possible, and grow thick skin. While Financial Aid Administrators may not always get the glory, they relentlessly do the job to help provide students and families access to higher education. Every once in a while, a student or parent says ‘thank you’ or ‘I could not have made this far without you,’ and those are the things to carry with you.”
Alexis enjoys working with different schools and the ability to “flex her Financial Aid and Enrollment Management muscles” in new and interesting ways. Working with the College Aid Services team allows her to work with different people who have been in Financial Aid and Enrollment Management for years to support schools throughout the country. “In the end, the goal is to leave these schools in a better place than when we arrived.”
Alexis earned her Bachelor of Arts in History and Education from Brandeis University and her Master of Education in Education Policy from the University of Virginia.
