Joel Depue is a Senior Consultant for College Aid Services. With over 17 years of experience in financial aid and higher education, Joel gained financial aid experience through many roles, from Financial Aid Officer to Director of Financial aid to higher education consultant.
Joel brings his depth of knowledge to College Aid Services to assist institutions in various roles to ensure compliance, policy implementation, staff training, and accreditation. When asked what his most rewarding moment in financial aid was, he responded “After completing a successful audit with no findings and removing an institution from ‘Line of Credit’ sanctions from the Department of Education, I was recognized as one of the top Directors in Texas and nominated to the Texas Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (TASFAA) Board of Directors for 2018 and 2019.”
With the everchanging regulations in higher education, Joel suggests that new financial aid administrators attend as many conferences as possible, specifically state and software conferences, to build a network of colleagues within the industry: “You’re never going to know everything or have all the answers, but if you build a network, then you’ll always have colleagues you can seek answers from or gain best practices. As a new person to Financial Aid begins to advance their careers, these connections can oftentimes become mentors to help transition into higher roles.”
Joel recently joined the College Aid Services team and has enjoyed building his own network and working alongside the other consultants. “The amount of teamwork and collaboration shows that everyone is invested in each other’s success, in addition to their own personal success.”
Joel earned his Bachelor of Science in Applied Sciences-Business Administration from the Tarleton State University.
