2024-25 FAFSA Update: Additional ISIRs being Reprocessed

  • 2 min read

On May 1st, FSA announced that the Department will begin reprocessing 2024-25 FAFSA forms at the request of state agencies to address an issue with the order of school codes on the Institutional Student Information Record (ISIR). These reprocessed records will not result in changes to the student’s SAI or eligibility for federal student aid. Reprocessed records will not result in changes to the ISIR other than a reordering of the school list.

The Department will deliver the subsequent ISIR transactions to states and schools by the end of the week. Only impacted ISIRs with more than one school listed will be reprocessed, and the student’s SAI or eligibility for federal student aid will not change. However, their eligibility for state grants and scholarships may change based upon the state agency’s criteria for making awards based upon the listed school priority.

Additional context:

Some students had entered schools on their 2024-25 FAFSA form based upon priority order. As noted in the Technical FAQ and Known Issues Guide, the ISIRs, during processing, were displaying the school lists in descending numerical order based upon the Federal School Code.

This issue particularly impacted students whose state aid agencies use the school list order as part of their procedures for determining eligibility and making state financial aid awards to students enrolled at institutions within their states. On April 14, 2024, the Department implemented a technical fix to display schools in the order in which they are entered by the student on their 2024-25 FAFSA form.

Records reprocessed because of issues with the school list order will include the ‘07’ code described as “Correct Federal School Code (FSC) order.” We have added the code and description to the “Identifying Reprocessed ISIRs” section below.
