Federal Student Aid has updated the 2024–25 FAFSA Specifications Guide. The volumes contained in this guide contain FAFSA Processing System (FPS) technical and processing information for the 2024–25 award year.
Update on July 26, 2024: The Department anticipates revisions to guide’s EDE specifications in the coming days. The Department encourages Financial Aid Administrators to hold for the additional updates prior to making changes to their systems.
What changed with the July Update #1?
- Volume 3 – Electronic Data Exchange and FAFSA Processing revisions explain that a financial aid administrator (FAA) cannot add or correct personally identifiable information (PII) for a student or contributor. In cases where PII data needs to be corrected, the FAA must work with the student or contributor to have them make the necessary updates to their FAFSA data on StudentAid.gov. Additional changes include updates and clarification about EDE correction functionality on the 2024–25 FAFSA Partner Portal website. Review the Change History Table on pages v and vi for details.
- Volume 4 – Record Layouts and Processing Codes includes revisions to the EDE Correction Record Level Error Report Layout changing two fields to filler, and updated the Correction Data Entry Specifications to describe PII fields that an FAA cannot correct. For a detailed list of revisions review the Change History Table on page ix for complete details.
- Volume 5 – Edits and Rejects updates contain revisions to four FPS parameter edits for 2024–25. Review the Change History Table on page v for details.
- Volume 7 – Comment Codes revises the Action Needed column for comments that directed the FAA to make corrections to a contributor’s PII information. This guidance has been revised to indicate that the contributor needs to initiate the actions necessary to resolve the reject. Review the Change History Table on page v and see the “Notes” column in the 2024–25 Comment Text table in the affected sections to identify these updates.
The following volumes remain unchanged:
- Introduction
- Volume 1 – Summary of Changes
- Volume 2 – FPS Schedule and Getting Help
- Volume 6 – ISIR Guide
- Volume 8 – Agency Matches
- Volume 9 – Testing and Web Demo System
