Starting May 18, 2025, Federal Student Aid (FSA) will implement significant security updates to its Access and Identity Management System (AIMS), which governs access to key systems like COD, NSLDS, SAIG Enrollment, and the FAFSA Partner Portal.

Key Changes:

  • Shortened Inactivity Period: User access will now be disabled after 30 days of inactivity, reduced from the previous 90-day window.
  • Self-Service Reactivation: Users can restore access without contacting support by following on-screen prompts after attempting to log in.
  • Failed Login Recovery: After three unsuccessful login attempts, users can verify their identity through challenge questions and a security token to regain access.
  • Permanent Deactivation: Accounts inactive for 365 days will be permanently deactivated and require re-enrollment by the institution’s Primary Destination Point Administrator (DPA).

These updates aim to enhance the security of systems containing sensitive information and streamline the user experience
