October 1, 2025 Update: There is a temporary shutdown of the U.S. government due to a lapse in appropriations. The Federal Student Aid training webinar on Charges and Credit Balances which was scheduled for Wednesday, October 8 has been canceled. After the shutdown is over, FSA will provide information on a rescheduled date.
Federal Student Aid has announced their next webinar for October 2025: Charges and Credit Balances.
Date/Time: Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2025, 1–2:30 p.m. Eastern time
Description: Understanding charges and credit balances is crucial for effective cash management. In this session, we will explore the differences between institutional, non-institutional, and excludable charges in the context of the Return of Title IV (R2T4) calculation. We will also review how to prorate institutional charges and how to apply federal student aid funds to a student’s account to cover charges, including your responsibility to provide funds to a student for books and supplies in a timely manner. Finally, we will discuss how to properly identify and pay Title IV credit balances.
