The U.S. Department of Education has released an announcement that explain how 2025–26 supplemental award funds for each of the Campus-Based programs will be distributed and how schools will be notified of supplemental awards. Other than funds distributed through the supplemental process described in the announcement, the Department does not anticipate that any additional Campus-Based funds will become available for the 2025–26 award year.
The Department uses information collected on the Campus-Based Reallocation Forms (that were due Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2025) to reallocate unexpended Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG) and the Federal Work-Study (FWS) program funds from the previous award year as supplemental allocations for the current award year. (See a July 10, 2025 Electronic Announcement for more information about the reallocation form and process.)
Distribution of Supplemental Campus-Based Funds
FSEOG
By Sept. 30, 2025, the Department will reallocate supplemental FSEOG funds to schools based on two criteria. First, funds will be reallocated to schools located in areas that have been severely affected by disasters during the past fiscal year which notified Federal Student Aid that they sustained significant damage. Second, funds will be reallocated to schools that have a federal loan portfolio with a high risk of default projected over the next several years. Schools are only able to receive FSEOG funding up to the amount requested on the Fiscal Operations Report for 2023–24 and Application to Participate for 2025–26 (FISAP). The purpose of the FSEOG program is to provide grant funding to assist qualified students who demonstrate financial need, and as such, we strongly encourage schools to award FSEOG funds to needy students who were impacted by a disaster or who would otherwise take out a loan.
FWS
The Department have awarded 100% of the available FWS funds to schools that (1) have a 2025–26 fair share shortfall (final funding worksheet for FWS, line 28); and (2) requested a supplemental 2025–26 FWS allocation on line 5 of the Campus-Based Reallocation Form.
School Notification
Schools will be notified by email by the end of September 2025, if they received supplemental Campus-Based funds. This email is sent to the Financial Aid Administrator identified on the most recently submitted FISAP, or as updated on the “Demographics” page on the COD website.
In the email, schools will be referred to their Campus-Based Statement of Account which will reflect the supplemental award amount for each program.
To access the Statement of Account, schools should follow these steps:
- Log in to the COD website.
- From the School tab, select the “Campus-Based System” link from the left navigation menu.
- Select “Self-Service,” then “Notifications” from the left navigation menu.
