As part of FSA’s ongoing modernization of Federal Student Aid’s systems, the Department of Education is updating the Student Aid Internet Gateway (SAIG) environment. The updates may require action from your organization to maintain uninterrupted access.
What is Changing?
The SAIG updates will result in a change to outbound Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) connectivity and associated Internet Protocol (IP) addresses. Outbound TCP refers to connections your organization initiates from its system to the SAIG when it sends or receives files using EDconnect or TDClient. If your organization restricts outbound traffic, you may need to update your firewall rules. You must have port 26581 open for outbound TCP/IP traffic to the new IP addresses.
When Will This Change Occur?
FSA plans to implement the updates by March 8, 2026. FSA will update the test (non-production) environment first and it will be ready in late February. If your institution connects to the test environment, please make the required changes as soon as possible to avoid any disruption.
What Does Your Organization Need To Do?
Your organization should review how you currently connect to the SAIG, identify your information technology (IT) or network team responsible for managing firewall configurations, and add the following outbound TCP firewall rules to your current firewall configuration no later than March 1, 2026:
| SAIG Domain Name System (DNS) | Current Public NAT IP Addresses | New Public NAT IP Addresses |
| saigmailboxtest.ed.gov | 165.224.204.63 | 152.180.56.163 |
| saigmailbox.ed.gov | 165.224.204.64 | 152.180.56.164 |
You must have port 26581 open for outbound TCP/IP traffic to the new IP addresses.
FSA is providing the new production IP addresses in advance to ensure you have ample time to prepare. You should ensure your IT team applies these changes by March 1, 2026, to avoid disruptions to SAIG connectivity.
