Department of Education Releases 2026–27 Campus-Based Funding Allocations

The U.S. Department of Education has released the official 2026–27 Campus-Based Funding Report, announcing approved allocations for the Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG) and Federal Work-Study (FWS) programs. Along with the report, Federal Student Aid issued an Electronic Announcement directing institutions to review their approved funding on the Knowledge Center.

The published report includes each school’s OPEID, name, address, state code, and federal funds authorized for the FSEOG and FWS programs as of June 24, 2026. The report also includes state and national funding summaries. Schools that became eligible after the report was produced are not included in the notification.

For the 2026–27 award year, Federal Student Aid has approved:

  • $905.9 million in FSEOG funding for 3,338 institutions
  • $1.215 billion in FWS funding for 2,865 institutions

Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG)

FSEOG provides grant assistance to undergraduate students with exceptional financial need.

  • Maximum annual student award: $4,000
  • Federal funds generally cover 75% of grant costs
  • Institutions are responsible for the remaining 25%, unless they have received an approved waiver of the institutional matching requirement.

Federal Work-Study (FWS)

The Federal Work-Study Program provides part-time employment opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students with financial need.

  • Federal funds pay 75% of student earnings.
  • The remaining 25% is provided by the institution or eligible off-campus employer, unless they have received an approved waiver of the requirement.
  • The federal share of earned compensation for employment at private for-profit organizations may not exceed 50%.
  • The federal share may be up to 90% under certain conditions for employment at private nonprofit and public agencies and may be up to 100% for students employed as reading or math tutors or performing family literacy activities.
