Today FSA released electronic announcement GENERAL-25-27, which presents the NSLDS Delinquent Borrower Report (DELQ01) as a key resource for institutions aiming to prevent student loan defaults. This report assists schools in identifying and reaching out to borrowers who are delinquent on their federal student loans.

Key Features of the DELQ01 Report:

  • Comprehensive Borrower Information: The report includes detailed data such as borrower demographics (address, phone number, email), loan details (type, disbursement date, outstanding balance), and current monthly payment amounts.
  • Flexible Access Options: Institutions can request the report through the NSLDS Professional Access website, choosing from various formats including CSV, PDF, Excel, and large-volume SAIG files.  Once you access the NSLDS Reports Tool navigate to the Content Folder > Team content folder > NSLDS Folder > Loan & Grant Folder > DELQ01 Delinquent Borrower Report.
  • Customizable Parameters: Schools can tailor the report by specifying criteria like OPEID (6-digit for institution or 8-digit for specific location), federal loan servicer, cohort year, and delinquency periods.

This initiative aligns with the Department’s earlier request, reminding institutions to proactively engage with borrowers who are behind on their loan payments. By utilizing the DELQ01 report, schools can enhance their outreach efforts, support borrowers in resuming payments, and ultimately reduce cohort default rates.

The Default Prevention & Management assessment on the Knowledge Center offers additional resources to assist institutions in managing delinquent borrowers and preventing borrowers from defaulting on federal student loans.

For further assistance, institutions can refer to the NSLDS Reports for Schools Guide or contact the NSLDS Customer Support Center at 1-800-999-8219 or via email at nslds@ed.gov.
