FSA Announces Live Webinar Series Focused on Default Prevention

Federal Student Aid (FSA) has announced two upcoming live webinars as part of a new initiative designed to help institutions strengthen their student loan default prevention efforts. The initiative comes as institutions prepare for the release of official cohort default rates later this year and draft rates early next year.

FSA says the broader initiative will include webinars, regional workshops, conference sessions, and one on one consultations aimed at helping institutions reduce student loan delinquency and default, improve borrower repayment outcomes, and maintain compliance with Title IV requirements. Particular attention will be given to institutions with elevated delinquency, nonpayment, or cohort default rates. The first two live webinars are:

Default Prevention: NSLDS Reporting Tools

  • Tuesday, September 29, 2026, from 1:15 to 2:15 p.m. ET
  • This webinar introduces NSLDS resources designed to help with default management and prevention. FSA will explain how to use the Delinquent Borrower report, the 24/36 Month Repayment report, the Loan Record Detail report, and explain the draft cohort default rate calculation.

Default Prevention: Institutional Strategies for Success

  • Tuesday, October 13, 2026, from 1:15 to 2:15 p.m. ET
  • This session highlights the importance of managing and preventing loan defaults for campus leaders, showing how they affect daily operations and eligibility for federal student aid. It also offers practical resources to improve borrower communication and support students as they repay their loans.
  • Registration Link for Default Prevention: Institutional Strategies for Success Webinar

Registration is required for both webinars, and each session can accommodate up to 10,000 participants. Institutions may also submit questions in advance through the registration process.

Presentation materials will be available through the FSA Training Center beginning the day before each webinar. Recordings and transcripts are expected to be posted the following week. FSA has also recently released self paced training on cohort default rates and default prevention for institutions looking to build foundational knowledge on these topics.

Institutions should continue to watch for additional default prevention training and technical assistance opportunities from FSA as the initiative expands.
